Money talk

Posted by jannah at 11:23 PM on March 6, 2004.

Currently, I have enough saved up to get my old Pentium II PC upgraded. Hoping to change all the CPU hardware & add in a DVD+RW/+R or CD-RW drive, maybe a Zip drive. By the time I graduate from TP I hope to have enough saved up to get myself the Sun Certified Developer for Java 2 Platform certification, which would set me back by US$400. If only I could get sponsored. Hmmm.

What I found at Career 2004 exhibition the other day. Gotta keep these in mind.

Screaming monkey

Posted by jannah at 10:58 PM on March 7, 2004.

At the Front in the Virus Wars is an interesting read. I've never heard of virus fighting teams! Heh. They actually analyse the virus' programming code to find out what it can do. In F-Secure, when a new virus is spotted, a screaming monkey is used to raise the alarm!

Yahoo! vs Google

Posted by jannah at 11:09 PM on March 7, 2004.

This page comparing Yahoo! & Google search results is cool. Is it just me, or are the position of the results vastly different most of the time?

New machine!

Posted by jannah at 05:18 PM on March 14, 2004.

I'm currently blogging from my new machine! *bounces* 40 GB hard drive & 512 MB DDR RAM isn't the greatest, but it's good enough for me. Now I've two computers to meddle with. I'm guessing that my satisfaction's coming from the fact that I paid for this with my own savings.

I'm planning to install Linux on this machine. I'm just not sure which distribution will be best. Any recommendations for a newbie? I've only used Red Hat before, and I've never installed Linux.

My new gadget!

Posted by jannah at 09:33 PM on March 17, 2004.

I got my CoolDV 550 already! It's a digital video camcorder, camera, MP3 player & voice recorder all in one. Best of all, I got it for free! Mama took advantage of the Singnet/GrandVision Promo & renewed our SingNet BroadBand Unlimited Plan. Now I've two digicams to play around with, yayness.

How picky are you...

Posted by jannah at 10:35 PM on March 17, 2004.

...when it comes to choosing a partner? Heh, I'm not as picky as I thought. My score was only 14%. I'm not picky enough, it seems.

Have you ever seen a pink-shelled turtle?

Posted by jannah at 09:52 AM on March 21, 2004.

What I created during IN3D lab two days ago:

Model of a turtle

Was too lazy to colourise the turtle's body after the complicatedness of applying surfaces to the shell. I couldn't find a colour that goes with that pink anyway. Hee. Here's the screenshot showing the turtle in all viewports in LightWave Modeler.

Model of a SunMade Raisins bottle

I think the label would look less jagged after rendering. Here's the screenshot showing the bottle in all viewports in LightWave Modeler.

Plain crazy

Posted by jannah at 09:38 AM on March 24, 2004.

This week is just crazy. Plain crazy. I thought I knew what crazy was last semester, but that didn't even come close to this. So don't expect me to be blogging. Which is just as well since my sanity seems to be trickling away bit by bit every day. I just hope I don't break down.

Storyboard

Posted by jannah at 09:26 AM on March 26, 2004.

I'm pleased with the way my IN3D storyboard turned out. I've uploaded it in PDF form, if anyone wants to see. I'm actually going to model that in 3D. What do you think?

Windows XP 'box' inside a Windows XP box?

Posted by jannah at 10:10 PM on March 27, 2004.

I didn't know this was possible! Look, some guy built a Windows XP machine in a Windows XP box. As in, a box, literally. With an internal CD drive, no less!

Powerunicorn!

Posted by jannah at 05:34 PM on March 29, 2004.

Installed the Firesomething extension earlier today. It's utterly cool! Right now my browser is called 'Mozilla Powerunicorn'. It was 'Mozilla Waterfrog' just now. Heh. I'm just crapping because I'm overjoyed that DSCN Stage 3 is over & done with. Do you know what a load off my shoulders that is?

Yahoo…

Posted by jannah at 05:34 PM on March 31, 2004.

Part of the money my parents paid for the certification has finally been reimbursed by the school, as promised! There was a little ceremony in the lecture theatre yesterday to present us the cheques. I was quite paiseh when Mr Tang announced that I had the highest score which was "way beyond the passing mark". Ahem. They'd probably think I'm this nerd in hiding or something.
